Ideal candidates will be available immediately and may be required to work overtime and/or in off-site locations, including the offices of our clients. In Northern California, survey candidates will report to the Regional Survey Director in our corporate headquarters, located in Concord. Southern California survey candidates will report to a Survey Project Manager in Orange, Rancho Cucamonga, or San Diego. All candidates will carry out a broad range of technical assignments requiring specialized knowledge of, and experience associated with, land surveying and/or mapping principles and practices to support various projects throughout their respective regions.

Administrative Opportunities

Billing Specialist

Towill, Inc. is a growing surveying and mapping firm looking for a full-time billing specialist to work in its Concord office.  Position offers 100% paid employee medical insurance coverage, 100% paid employee dental insurance coverage, a generous 401k match, eligibility for a discretionary performance bonus and many other employee benefits.  Competitive pay will be negotiated based on experience.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Read, interpret, and follow requirements of contracts
  • Set up terms and rates in accounting system (Deltek Vision)
  • Monitor expenditures of the projects
  • Research, gather, and maintain supporting documentation daily for monthly invoicing
  • Daily interaction with project managers advising of issues concerning invoicing and budgeting requirements
  • Monitor subcontractor services for invoicing and payment
  • Monitor write-ups and write-offs
  • Monitor and manage annual escalation and adjustments (wages, associated project costs)
  • Back up for union payroll (on rotation)
Requirements:

  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Detail oriented and able to manage complex data with speed and accuracy
  • Able to plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Able to establish and maintaining efficient filing and records retention of supporting documentation, invoices, contracts, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Northern California Survey Opportunities

Project Surveyor

Responsibilities:

  • Person will service all clients with dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Person will help plan, develop, and carry out requirements for projects both large and small.
  • Person will initiate work on a project and prepare job status worksheets as projects progress.
  • Person will organize and give instruction for field crew set up and review work done for completeness.
  • Person will provide input for proposals to estimate the cost and establish a budget and schedule for the technical requirements of the project.
  • Person will help Regional Director and/or Project Managers to maintain Scope of Work, budget, and perform quality control on documents to maintain project schedules.
  • Person will prepare maps, computations from field notes, office data, title searches and improvement plans for office and field use.
  • Person will inform the Regional Director and/or Project Manager of any major problems, time delays, or potential cost overruns.
  • Person will work independently or under the guidance of the Regional Director and/or Project Manager to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Person will coordinate and review the work of project team of Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors, CAD Operators, Survey Technicians, and Drafters, as needed.
  • Person will work as a team member on large projects with aggressive schedules.
  • Person will possess strong attention to detail and be highly motivated.
  • Person must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
  • Ideal candidate will have a BS in Surveying or similar technical degree.
  • Ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of work experience with their PLS license.
  • Must be proficient using AutoCAD Civil 3D (2013 or later).
  • Strong preference for experience with GPS planning and processing, especially to Caltrans Specifications.
  • Strong preference for experience with planning, implementing, and checking terrestrial LiDAR acquisition.
  • Strong preference for experience with Right of Way Surveys, including creation of Legal Descriptions and Plats, Appraisal Maps, and Land Nets.
  • Preference for proficiency with MicroStation.
  • Preference for candidates who are willing to work in off-site locations, including offices of our clients.
  • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license (Class C) and a satisfactory background and driving clearance.

 

Survey CADD Technician

Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have either an associate’s degree or 1-2 years of applied experience
  • Must have 1-2 years of experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D (2012 or later)
  • Strong preference for experience using MicroStation, TopoDOT, or other LiDAR-based software, and ability to learn new software
  • Experience working with terrestrial LiDAR acquisition a plus!
  • Some experience with Legal Descriptions and Plats, Right of Way Mapping, Topographic Map Drafting, drafting of Corner Records and Records of Surveys, and other exhibits, reports, and deliverables
  • Preference for candidates who are willing to work in off-site locations, including offices of our clients
  • Must be in possession of a valid drivers’ license (Class C) and a satisfactory background and driving clearance

Southern California Survey Opportunities

Project Surveyor

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, and carries out the technical requirements of a large and intricate surveying and mapping project and/or a number of small projects with complex features.
  • Initiates work on the project at hand, and prepares job status worksheets as the project progresses.
  • Gives initial instructions for field crew set up and performs a job site inspection ensuring control points are aligned with scope of project and proper equipment is being used.
  • Provides input for proposals to estimate the cost and establish a budget and schedule for the technical requirements of the project.
  • Informs the Project Manager, daily, of any major problems, time delays, or potential cost overruns, maintaining the company’s schedule, scope, and accuracy standards or quality control points through periodic meetings and/or written updates.
  • Works independently or under the guidance of the Project Manager and Regional Director to solve technical problems within the initial scope of the work. May request change in scope if unanticipated problems develop as the work progresses.
  • Keeps abreast of new methods and developments affecting this particular area of expertise.
  • Coordinates and reviews the work of project team of Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors, CAD Operators, Survey Technicians, and Drafters as needed.
  • Provides input to Regional Director in annual performance reviews of project team members.
Requirements:

  • Ability to work as a team member on large projects with aggressive schedules.
  • Must possess high level of integrity in accordance with Towill, Inc. operations, standards, policies, and procedures; and lead by example.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Be a self-motivated team player.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ideal candidate will have a BS in Surveying and Mapping or at least 6 years industry experience.
  • Must be proficient using AutoCAD Civil 3D (2013 or later) and/or MicroStation.
  • Must possess and demonstrate basic technical understanding of mapping and land surveying, including: legal principles of boundary determinations, sectionalized land subdivisions, the California State Plane Coordinate System, California statutes regulating the practice of land surveying and the subdivision of land, control and geodetic surveys, aerial photogrammetric surveys, survey accuracies and precisions, and uses and capabilities of modern surveying instruments.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to begin work as soon as possible.
  • Must be in possession of a valid drivers’ license (Class C) and a satisfactory background and driving clearance.
  • Must have excellent and effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must possess the ability to see the organization as a whole and understand the interrelationships of the various functions of the organization and the impact they have on one another.

 

Field Survey Technicians for Chief of Party, Chainman, Apprentice (all levels)

Towill is currently seeking driven, safety-minded self-starters to fulfill field surveyor positions!

What we look for:

  • Operating Engineers International Union Local 12 (Southern California) members in good standing.
  • Enrollment in, or completion of, Survey Apprenticeship program through respective union local.
  • High school education or GED.
  • Possession of current California driver’s license and satisfactory clearance of background and driving screening.
  • Math skillset to include trigonometry.
  • Maintain physical condition necessary for walking over uneven surfaces; standing for extended periods of time; some stooping, crawling, crouching, and hiking; some lifting and carrying of equipment; audiovisual acuity and manual and physical dexterity.
  • LS or LSIT certification a plus.

 

Office Survey Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Person will be responsible for compiling data collected from field surveys into CADD environment and drafting various projects including property base maps, topographic design maps, facility centerline maps, plan and profile design drawings, permit support documents, and legal plats.
  • Person will be formatting design data for import into CADD environment, analyzing data and comparing to published plans, compiling reports for revision documents, preparing field packages, and supporting drafting operations.
  • Person will be downloading, interpreting, organizing, reducing, and verifying field survey notes and electronic survey data from data collectors.
  • Person will interpret and write legal descriptions and prepare accompanying plats under the direction of the project manager.
  • Person will be performing quality control functions and quality assurance of project data and deliverables prior to submittal to clients.
  • Person will perform other technical project objectives such as utility, as-built plan, and property boundary research.
  • Person will be involved in the development, documentation, and implementation of procedures to promote efficient performance of a variety of geomatics services offered by Towill, Inc.
  • Person will attend staff meetings to discuss technical issues related to project requirements.
Requirements:

  • Ability to work as a team member on large projects with aggressive schedules.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Be highly motivated.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be proficient using AutoCAD Civil 3D (2013 or later) and/or MicroStation.
  • Must have prior mapping and/or drafting experience.
  • Must be able to work as soon as possible.
  • Must be in possession of a valid drivers’ license (Class C) and a satisfactory background and driving clearance.
  • Ideal candidate will have at least 4 years industry experience and 2 years formal training or 5 years of industry experience.
  • LSIT or EIT is desired, but not a requirement.
